Day 112 – Adelaide, Australia

I didn’t do much today, walked around trying to find a warm fleece jacket/pullover, but I noticed the drizzle -haven’t had a drizzle in month-, the puddles that stay on the ground, and the cool temperatures.

Water! Cold water! Puddles! Drizzle! Yoohoo! I haven’t had any in months (I’m not counting warm tropical downpours as drizzle)!

If you look at the pictures heading my last articles, you will see blue skies and more blue skies. Sure I got cold temperatures at night, but I haven’t had a grey sky since Asia. I suspect that I will get tired of the cold quickly, though.

Rundle Mall

I haven’t uploaded the few pictures I have taken yet, it takes ages in my hostel, and I just finished the ones from Coober Pedy.

To round up my day’s activities, I went to Bobo Central, more commonly called the Central Market: sure, it’s nice. It’s also full of organic fruits and vegetables artfully stocked in chequered-cloth-lined baskets, artisan bread (at awful prices), cheeses (“Hum, only matured 3 months? That’s a bit young, do you have a more mature cheddar?” -oh my, I’m a bobo), meats, and coffee. Why do people drink so much coffee? And where is the tea?

So diner was oregano-spiced bread, sliced fresh tomatoes, matured cheddar (18 months is much more reasonable), and smoked sausage. Better than my usual canned ravioli or instant mashed potatoes. (That said, when you add mushroom dehydrated soup in your instant mashed potatoes, the result is tasty.)

So being among other French people in my current hostel, I got quite a few gems I couldn’t help overhearing, mostly of people on the phone with friends from France: from the price of a pack of cigarettes or a pack of beer (“I don’t eat man, I smoke and I drink, it’s so expensive!”), to language skills (“Yeah I don’t speak English, but I’ll manage.”) Even the lady at the reception desk is French.
