Museum day
Day 286 – San Francisco, USA
Today was a busy day, but not my favorite, I must say.
I started with a visit to the California Academy of Sciences -to which I only went because I had a free ticket included in my City Pass-, and was a bit disappointed. It is geared for children -and they were plentiful!-, so I found many exhibit a bit lacking in in-depth explanations.
They have an albino alligator, but no history of where he came from, a stuffed dodo, same problem, and it was difficult to approach the different aquarium for the children running amok in front.
California Academy of Sciences – The alligator looks plastic from here, but I checked and I saw it breathing.
The green roof was also a disappointment: I thought it would be a great expense to explore, but you have only a short platform to explore.
I enjoyed the Foucault’s pendulum, though.
So I drowned my sorrows in a clam soup for lunch -served into a bread bowl, my favorite.
After that, I went to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, SFMOMA for short. Anyway, it was a rainy day, so it was the best way to spend the day.
Modern art… it appeals to your senses or leaves you indifferent. And often in both case, baffled.
So… spiders.
SFMOMA
Or wooden cylinders.
SFMOMA
Baffled, I tell you.
After that, I made my way home feeling not quite more educated than I was previously.
I think the museum I would have really appreciated is the De Young Museum, which isn’t on the card… and had for main exhibition Monet, art that I can see (and have seen) back in France quite easily.
Magnifique notre Sindbad!
