Day 281 – La Sagesse, Grenada

After an unadventurous arrival last night, picked up at the airport by my aunt and my uncle, I met this morning their other guests.

They had planned an outing and had included me in it, which was a very kind thing to do!

We went to Grenville to pick up breakfast: doubles. Remember, chick pea curry in fried bread? There is only one way to eat these: messily (like tacos, which I had this morning before writing this two weeks later).

We went on a beach nicknamed Driftwood Beach to eat these; the sand was grey-black, from volcanic origin, and we found seats on bleached driftwood… the white wood sticking out of black sand in twisted shapes was very fantastic, and I regretted not having taken my camera out of the car… though without pockets and my hands quite soon full of greasy goodness, I don’t know how I would have managed!

Our next stop was Bathway Beach (featured above), a beach with a natural rock breaker giving bathers a shallow, warm pool protected from the big waves. We enjoyed the sun and the sea, then went on for a short walk on Levera Beach.

Levera Beach is a turtle nesting ground. We were there shortly before their nesting period, so on one hand we didn’t see any turtle -though they come out of the sea at night to lay eggs-, but on the other we could walk in the beach, which is not possible when you could possible step on nests.

We went on to Petite Anse, a restaurant on the North coast of the island -whereas Grande Anse is the main beach, on the island’s South coast. We had lunch on a terrace overlooking the sea with a stunning view.

(The island has a mix of French and English names due to its different occupants, with very little of the Carib people remaining.)

We went home after that to enjoy the rest of the day.
