Another transit day
Day 226 – Caldera, Chile
I finally learned why I can’t buy bus tickets online. Apparently, foreign credit card don’t really work. That makes me dependant on ticket offices… and sometimes, you van’t buy tickets for destinations that don’t include your location. That mostly means buying your bus at the last minute.
With the uncertainty associated with that course of action.
So this morning I went early to the bus terminal with my backpack, bought a ticket back to La Serena, in the easy bus that stops everywhere to pick up and drop off people.
Once in the bus terminal at La Serena, I found the correct kiosk and bought the ticket I wanted -huge relief! So I had an hour and half to kill before my bus left. Fortunately, I had already booked the time for a WhatsApp call to France.
And so… 6 hours in bus (I thought 7, but apparently not) took me to Caldera, a seaside town. My hostel would have been a lot more comfortable without bugs (ants?) trying to snack on me at night. The partying at all hours got tiring -I understand now why they said that breakfast was starting at 9 am.
But I discovered exactly how comfortable the “cama” class is… huge reclining chairs, snack, plenty of legroom. Enough to convince me to go for a night bus tonight to Calama. From there I will go to San Pedro de Atacama.
