Day 166 – Taupo, New Zealand

I left Rotorua this morning to reach Taupo today. It is not very far, and the town is on a lake, itself a caldera, I believe. The region is riddled with volcanic activity.

It started raininf as I went out in the afternoon of course, and occasional violent showers can still be heard.

My biggest emotion of the day was having my bed “stolen”: I arrived early and thus had my choice of bed in the dorm. I put my bags by the bed of my choice, putmy hoodie on it, and went putmy food awayin the kitchen, cook and eat, and generally took my time away from the room.

More people arrived in the meantime and since I hadn’t made my bed -still had my jacket on it though-, someone decided that it was free. (The gall!) I had to kick him off and to the last free bed, an upper bunk. Probably creaky too. But I had my Goldilock moment and chosen precisely the bed I wanted, no way I was letting it go.

(That gets very important when you live in dorms for a long time, with creaky, too soft beds, upper bunks impossible to get on, or so close to the lower one that you can’t sit without hitting your head, and so on.)

So that was my difficult day! 😉
