Leaving the Great Ocean Road
Day 123 -Wilsons Promontory, Australia
After my not-so-legal night, rising at dawn, I took the time to take a few pictures of the sun above the sea before fleeing to my koalas.
The description of the walk says “follow the Grey River Road”, which is a bit succinct. Instead of parking at the beginning when it reaches the coastal town of Kennett River, I drove until a rest area. A lot of kilometres on an unsealed road.
I didn’t see many, but I had a good walk in the forest, with the sharp smell of eucalyptus. It was very pleasant.
Grey River Road – Eucalyptus
I finally saw a koala on my way back, you saw the picture earlier on my blog.
I started counting the days I had left, what I still wanted to do, and decided it was time to go forward. I made only quick stops along the coast, took the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento, which allowed me to cross the bay at the South of Melbourne without approaching the city.
Still, I couldn’t arrive at Wilsons Promontory National Park before dark. Nothing like driving at night on unlit road with the threat of wildlife crossing the road. Or sitting in your lane just at the end of a curve, unmoving, and you without the space to see it, swerve, or even brake. I hope it was a wombat and not a koala. (I’m traumatized.)
Of course, going around in a camping at night without light is its own kind of fun, though the bathroom remained lit. Pfiou. I had a neighbour, and I was thankful, because I hate being alone in a dark place for the whole night, even if I can lock the door.
There were stars in the sky so I left the sky panel open. Of course, once I took my glasses of, it was moot, but one tries.
