Malacca
Day 58 – Malacca/Melaka, Malaysia
I made it! After a leisurely waking, a water-and-plain-bread breakfast (I forgot to bring my own teabag down and I wasn’t in a mood to put jam on my toast, and there was no butter), I took a commuter train to the right bus terminal.
That’s something that I could have done the evening before if I had had the right information!
The train has carriages marked “women only” (in pink), with the same markings on the platform at the right level. Fun!
I bought my bus ticket, waited at the right gate, took the bus to Malacca, and then chased a bit the right information to know how to get downtown. The answer is bus 17, and well… since many people have the same answer, I had to wait for the next bus.
The Malaysian sitting next to me took advantage of the waiting time to start talking with me, leading to him asking me -and apologizing for asking- why I shave my hair.
Tit for tat, I asked me about the bus route and where to go down, and he very kindly showed me and called the bus stop for me when we are aboard.
I have a bed in a small hostel, it is a converted small space with 6 beds, a small kitchen and two small bathrooms. I was almost going to have the space for myself, but the other expected guest arrived shortly before midnight, while I was sitting in all the glory of my sleeping attire in front of the computer writing this. So at least the lady didn’t wake me.
For 40 ringgits a night (8 €), it is pretty good.
On my way to the hostel, walking along the canal, I saw a small crocodile in the water. Unexpected. It was gone before I could take a picture.
In the evening, I went to the night market; there is a lot of food on offer, and I saw a sign for charcoal ice cream. I know that the stuff is pitched as good for the health, but as ice cream… I’m not convinced!
And I saw the most amazing tourist attraction: I recorded a few seconds on my phone, the whole experience must be watched with the sound on.
It sure made me smile and put an extra spring in my step!
C’est presque chic, les pieds dans l’eau (pas trop s’il y a des crocos!)…et garanti avec moustiques?
J’espère que tu feras de ce vélo charmant!
Je voudrais une photo des wagons de trains réservés aux femmes!
