Room mayhem
Day 254 – Cuzco, Peru
Today was a rainy day, so I didn’t adventure outside much. I went to the Mercado San Pedro, a market renowned for its food diversity, but as it was late in the afternoon, it wasn’t as spectacular as it should probably be. Still, it was nice.
On the way back, I stopped in a bakery that styled itself as inspired by French pastries, since it was offering several kinds of croissants. I had to try, but I have to say that they don’t know how exactly to make them, as they taste more like bread pastries than like our fluffy, buttery pastries. But the one with dulce de leche inside was almost worth it. (They call it caramel, but it’s not the same.)
Coming back to my room after diner there was a bit of mayhem to be found in my dorm room: my lock was gone from my locker, which gave me a moment of panic, but at a single glance my computer was still there, and checking later my passport wasn’t gone either. I looked around, thinking I had forgotten to put it back on, or that I hadn’t quite engaged it and it had fallen down, but it was nowhere to be found.
Talking with my dormmate, one had a phone stolen while it was charging (she had left it charging on her bed and was gone!), and stuff I had left on a shelf by my bed were rifled through.
So I checked my belongings all the more! And I had to buy a new lock, fortunately the hostel sells some for a few soles. I’ll try to find a better one soon.
