Museo Inka
Day 251 – Cuzco, Peru
I have some catching-up to do! I’ve added pictures to the Cuzco Gallery too, so head there for more.
My main visit today was to the Inca Museum. I learned about the architecture, and the importance of lamas in the culture -as provider of meat and wool, and the ceremonial role in sacrifice.
Museo Inka – Entrance
They have a room about spinning, dyeing, and weaving the wool, as well as description of the different patterns -stars, sunlight on the water, medicinal plants, jaguar tail, and so many more. It was frustrating not to be able to take pictures!
They have a model of Machu Picchu, it was interesting to see it from above. There are also mummies, but it’s less pretty. Still very interesting.
The last part showed how some Inca nobles lived in European style in the centuries after the arrival of the Spanish people.
The museum doesn’t end in a traditional shop, but several artisans have set up shop on the gallery above the central courtyard and offer different objects for sale.
Museo Inka – Courtyard
It was more interesting after that visit to see how, in the historical centre, many building are using Inca stone foundations. You can see how they carved the stones to fit each other instead of cutting them all in equal size.
Cuzco – Inca wall
And that’s it for my day!
Vraiment intéressant et le mur est magnifique! Reste-t-il des Incas encore? Tu découvres une nouvelle culture, et nous la fais découvrir. Auras-tu résisté aux artisans? Mais je te comprends…
