National Museum of Ecuador
Day 268 – Quito, Ecuador
I planned some day tours with my hostel, so the only days left to visit the National Museum -and its Pre-Columbian art- was either today or next Monday… and the museum closes on Mondays.
Of course there was an artisan market on the way, so I made an unscheduled stop and left a bit more burdened than I entered. But they have lockers in the museum so I could leave all of it during my visit.
The main exhibits have an English translation, but once again the individual objects have only a Spanish label; most often it is easy to guess, but sometimes it is more difficult.
One of the masterpieces is the gold mask (featured above). There wasn’t as much Pre-Columbian art as I was hoping. I won’t say that I enjoyed or even understood most of the exhibits, especially the way it was laid out together.
But in the modern part, an artist had made a 3D rendition of an 19th century painting that was fun.

And then back to the hostel.
